Formula One racing is one of the most enthralling motor sports around to watch. The sport that we know today derived from inter-war period racing but it took until 1950 for a set of rules to be agreed to, with Formula One races first taking place in 1950. Although the world championship has visited numerous venues throughout the world, there is one constant - the motor racing cars and the firms investing in them. The landmark motor car companies are Ferrari, Renault and McLaren, although in recent years Jordan and Lotus have also taken part in championships. The spectators are always interested in the drivers, from the audacious racing of Nelson Piquet through to the exciting Jim Clark.

There are many auto racing events which each attract a different crowd and each have a set of specific rules. The FIA WTCC is quite easily of the most watched car racing events the action packed motor sports schedule. Following the first event in 1987, the WTCC series is held in numerous parts of the world including locations like Macau, Portugal, Belgium and Italy. Other key motoring events include the Indianapolis 500 the World Rally Championship and the Dakar Rally Raid. The NASCAR Nationwide Series and the Le Mans Series are also two hugely popular car racing championships.

Car racing involves the racing of cars for competition and is understandably one of the most popular and most watched sports in the world. It's believed car racing started not long after the world's first gasoline powered automobile was constructed and it's thought the very first car race in the world was created in 1894 by French magazine Le Petit Journal. The first car race track started in Paris and ended in Rouen and attracted major manufacturers like De Dion, Panhard and Peugeot and a plethora of private car owners. Although motor racing continued to grow in popularity over the years, it wasn't until the 1930s that the first pure racing automobiles were built, with extreme performance vehicles from car manufacturers such as Bugatti and Mercedes-Benz transforming the feel and style of car racing forever.
