The lower the C02 emissions that your vehicle produces the more affordable your car tax will be - motors that pollute the air the least are in the lowest grade called Band A and automobiles that pollute the most are in the highest grade called Band M. Vehicles in Band A do not have to pay road tax. Many of these are electric cars and do not have to pay out for the London congestion charge. The Audi A3 Start/Stop 99, the Peugeot 207 Economique, Ford Fiesta Edge, Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, the Vauxhall Corsa ecoFlex and the VW Golf Bluemotion are just some of the cars in Band A. Motorists with vehicles in the Band M bracket have to pay the largest amounts, which can hit figures of over £400. Only cars in Band D and above qualify for 6 months road tax. Brand new cars bought this year in Bands A to D will not have to pay for road tax for 12 months - beyond this point car owners will have to pay.
